Happy New Year, everyone! I can’t believe how fast 2015 has passed us by! And we’re already 4 days into 2016! I wish all of you lots of happiness, health and success in the year ahead!
I don’t know about you, but I always feel very excited at the beginning of the year! I’m bursting with energy and expectations and I always make those big bright plans… always build new castles in the air… always make heartfelt wishes for the future ahead. What often happens though is that I burn out in the very beginning and hardly ever get to accomplishing my pie-in-the-sky ideas. However, I want 2016 to be different! That’s why I started working for it early. I actually began preparing for 2016 as soon as December had approached and I’m so happy and grateful that I did that! I feel much more relaxed and ready to tackle all those challenges that lie ahead.
Below I will share with you the five steps I undertook in order to prepare for a successful year ahead.
5 Easy Small Steps for a Successful New Year
Determine your goals
I started thinking about goals for 2016 in the beginning of December. I had some idea what I want to achieve, but I knew that in order to be successful I had to turn my wishes into clear and specific goals. I had been learning a lot about goal-setting lately, so I knew very well that my previous “system” wouldn’t work. Once I had defined my goals, I wrote them down in my planner so that I have easy access to them all the time.
Word for 2016
In accordance with my goals, I chose a word to mark my 2016 and to help me stay on track more easily. My word this year is mobilization. I chose it, because I will need to mobilize all my energy and strength in order to reach the desired results. Yup, it will be a tough and busy year for me… but I’m so into it!:)
Motto for 2016
I liked the word-for-2016 idea so much, that I decided to go even further and choose a motto as well. My motto is: “Do something every day that brings you closer to your goals”. There’re those days when all I want is to stay in bed reading a book. And even though I can’t afford such days any more, there’re plenty of those when I feel like I haven’t done anything and have completely wasted my time. I hope that this year’s motto will help me do more and waste less. Because even the little things count and have the ability to add up.
Acquiring new knowledge and learning new skills are things that often tend to remain ignored amidst a busy schedule. That’s why I decided to pay more special attention to them and to plan some creative and educational activities starting January 1st. I’ve enrolled for some online classes and signed for different challenges and initiatives. Some of them are for character development; others are for sports, cooking, reading, etc.
Preparing our mind for what’s ahead
There’s a great saying that we can change our whole life (and that of many others) by just changing our way of thinking. That’s why I find it very useful to take some time to prepare myself mentally for all the challenges and tasks I have set. That way I feel ready to dive right into them with more confidence and energy.
I know everyone has a different way of welcoming the New Year and I hope that some of those tips will prove useful to you.
